Intro

“Sustainability Now” started in 2002.  It was 10 years after the first Earth Summit in Rio in 1992.  Rio ‘zero’ was a landmark event where visionaries like Gro Brundtland, and Maurice Strong presented to the world the new concept of  “Sustainable Development” defined as “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

Sustainability Now was born of the necessity to bring the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC, Canada up to speed with the concept of sustainability, with the goal of making sustainability an integral part of engineering ethics and practice.

From 2002 to 2005, the site received thousands of entries, on topics ranging from philosophy, energy, climate change, social responsibility, mining, early green building initiatives and much more.
