Dr. Patrick Minnis of the Langley Research Center, run by the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in Hampton, Va., used satellite images to find that in just a few hours, six contrails formed by air-force jets spread out to cover more than 20,000 square kilometres.
