Education Program Environmental Educator The Sierra Club of Canada, BC Chapter is an environmental non-profit organization currently in need of Environmental Educators. We are seeking keen, creative and highly energetic individuals to join our school program delivery team, focusing on a variety of topics including temperate rainforests, interior ecosystems, and environmental stewardship. Position Overview Responsibilities include the design and delivery of both existing and new environmental education school programs, computer data basing, prop and program materials design, and the development of, and participation in special events such as conferences and workshops. 80% plus of your time will be dedicated to delivering in-class programs to students throughout BC. Travel within BC is a significant component of this position. Mandatory Requirements Successful applicants must be willing to: 1. Work in a fast-paced environment, with minimal supervision and as part of a tightly knit team. 2. Travel. Approximately 80% of your time will be spent traveling to schools throughout BC. Remaining time will be spent in Victoria. Successful applicants will need to be based in Victoria. 3. Be wildly imaginative, highly motivated, and completely comfortable acting and speaking in front of large groups. Theatre, performance and skits are important components of our programs. Qualifications 1. Extensive experience working with children in environmental education, preferably within the school system and/or parks system. 2. A Class 5 driver s license. Clean driving record. Vehicle an asset. 3. A strong background in education, environmental studies, environmental science, geography, natural history interpretation, biology, forestry, or proven life experience equivalency. 4. A solid background in environmental education/interpretation program development and delivery. 5. Comprehensive knowledge of BC s ecosystems, especially the Coast and Mountain(temperate rainforest), Georgia Lowlands and Interior Ecosystems. Skills 1. Self-confidence & excellent public speaking skills. 2. Self-starter with excellent organizational and creativity skills. 3. Proven ability to work as a team under stressful conditions with minimal resources. Ability to see the humour in things an asset, as is the ability to go with the moment. 4. Workshop planning and facilitation skills considered an asset. 5. Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Internet and email.
